What is Drip Irrigation Tape? How to use and install it?

Drip Irrigation Tape is one of the best equipment in drip irrigation systems.

Drip irrigation was first used in clay pots before Christ and has gained a significant reputation in the agricultural industry since the invention of impact sprinklers in the 1930s.

This tape is a polymer pipe made of polyethylene which has a place for water droplets to come out at certain distances.

Drip Irrigation Tape is produced and supplied in two forms:

1.Drip tape with flat emitter

2.Labyrinth drip tape

Flat emitter drip tape has emitters on it but labyrinth drip tape doesn’t have any emitters. On the edge of labyrinth drip tape, there’s a zigzag path (like a zipper), that breaks down the water pressure. So, the water droplets come out through the seams and reach the plant.

Based on the tape’s thickness and the distance between emitters, Drip Irrigation Tape has a lot of variation. Its diameter is always 16mm and the thickness is from 150 to 200 microns. The distance between emitters (seams) is also from 10 to 30 cm.

But the most widely used type of Drip Irrigation Tape has a thickness of 175 and 200 microns and the distance between emitters (seams) is 20 cm.

The amount of irrigation water is normally from 1.2 liter to 3 liter per second.

Drip Irrigation Tape can be buried beneath the ground, exactly under the plant’s root to irrigate the plant directly.

This method is usually used for irrigation of a row of crops, especially in areas where water resources are limited.
